  4. Introduction
  5. ------------
  6. ConfiX is a simple universal configuration utility that
  7. can be used to create and maintain configuration files for
  8. your programs. Most of our own software supports the ConfiX
  9. protocol and will call !ConfiX whenever the option Choices...
  10. is selected from the iconbar menu of the application.

  12. Installation
  13. ------------
  14. !ConfiX must have been 'seen' by the filer before the client 
  15. application can launch it. It is therefore best placed inside
  16. the '!Boot.Resources' directory on your harddisc.
  17.  
  18. Clients
  19. -------
  20. An application that uses !ConfiX' facilities to create
  21. and edit its configurations files, is called a client.
  22. The name of the client is always shown in the title of
  23. the main ConfiX-window and many clients may use !ConfiX
  24. simultaneously.

  26. Changing !ConfiX' own configuration
  27. -----------------------------------
  28. !ConfiX is an application in its own right and is therefore
  29. a perfect example of ConfiX-client. Open the program-menu
  30. (middle mouse button over the main ConfiX-window) and
  31. click 'Options...'. This will open a new ConfiX-window
  32. containing ConfiX' own settings.

  34. Protocol
  35. --------
  36. If you want to include support for !ConfiX in your own
  37. applications, a minimum of work has to be done. A full
  38. description for programmers (API) including a number of software
  39. examples in BBC BASIC is available from our website.
